The contract award follows RS’s previous classification work for LNG carriers under construction since 2011 (such as the Velikiy Novgorod - pictured), says RS Planning and Marketing Division head Georgy Bedrik.
However, the new vessel will feature an LNG regasification system, systems for LNG loading from other LNG carriers as well as export of the regasified product to shore, distinguishing it from RS’ previous class agreements, he points out.
Thanks to anti-icing protection the vessel will be capable of operating at temperatures as low as –30°C, says RS, while Arc4 ice class notation signifies it will be able to navigate average one-year ice up to 0.9 m thick in summer and autumn.
