The vessel, to be constructed at Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam for delivery in 2015, represents the exercising of an option on a previous two-vessel contract signing last month, both of which are to be delivered in the third quarter of 2014.
The vessels, 35 m in length, will be propelled by two Azimuth thrusters, each powered by a 500kw electric motor. Power for the propulsion will be derived from three Caterpillar gensets. Each vessel, designed for stability and manoeuvrability, will operate alongside other vessels, assisting with board-to-board transhipment of goods and equipment.
The yard has built all Rederij Groen’s SRSVs to date and worked with the owner for the past 10 years, meaning "we have built up a lot of trust,” said Rederij Groen principal Henk Groen.
