Last week the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Senat Shipping and its president, Singaporean, Leonard Lai for allegedly provide “extensive support” Ocean Maritime Management Company (OMMC), a company which is already blacklisted.
The MFA said that the UN Panel of Experts wrote to Senat Shipping in September 2014 seeking information about its alleged links with OMMC.
“Subsequently, the Singapore authorities issued an advisory note to Senat reminding the company of its obligations under Singapore law to report any information on dealings with companies or nationals under United Nations sanctions,” MFA said.
“To date, Senat has not responded to either the Singapore authorities or the UN Panel of Experts regarding these allegations.”
In press statement on Friday Senat Shipping strongly denied that the company or its president were involved in any illegal activites.
