It has joined the BRS Group of companies under the new name of BRS Amazonas SAS.
Amazonas was founded more than 30 years ago by Eduardo Silva to serve local Latin American and Caribbean clients, mainly dry-bulk cargo customers using bulk carriers up to ultramax size, and he will remain with the company for the foreseeable future.
Eduardo Silva and his team have already been cooperating effectively with BRS teams in Stamford and Paris for the last two years. They will fit well into the BRS way of working, said BRS in a statement.
BRS maintains a network of 20 offices in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North and South America. This larest move follows the setting up by BRS of new offices in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Vietnam to provide services in these developing areas.
BRS Amazonas becomes the second outpost in South America for the group. An office in Rio de Janeiro was opened in July 2015. It is active in bulk, tanker, containers and offshore.
While BRS Amazonas is mainly involved in dry cargo chartering, BRS may look at adding tanker chartering and sale & purchase activities in future, and expanding the team. Colombia is a large market for dry bulk since the country exports commodities and agricultural products.
“I have known Eduardo Silva and his family for 34 years. A more honest and dedicated shipping man would be hard to find. I am delighted that he has agreed to join BRS. This will greatly help us to increase our presence in Latin America which is an important strategic move for us,” said Chris Reilly of BRS.
