Puerto Coronel received this two new 23-row-cranes on Monday which it recently acquired to reinforce its infrastructure.

The ZPMC cranes will be fully operational on mid-April, after a period of assembly and operational adjustment. Puerto Coronel is the main port operator in the south-central part of Chile handling forestry and fishing products which are the main exports of the Bio-Bio region.

Last March, Port Coronel announced a $30m investment to strengthen its infrastructure and acquire two new container gantry cranes capable of serving super post-panamax ships and the construction of associated infrastructure.

“It allows us to continue being the most important port of the centre-south of Chile, with infrastructure according to shipping transport trends and with a world-class port service, faster and more efficient. We are ready to handle the cargo of the center-south of Chile, even Argentina,” said Puerto Coronel´s ceo Javier Anwandter.

In the last years, Coronel has handled an increasing volume of Argentinean cargo, mainly fruit.

The Port officials forecast an increase of cargo volume up to 8.4m tonnes, positioning it immediately behind the terminals of the central zone of the country, San Antonio and Valparaiso.
