A cargo fire broke out on one of the containers onboard a 730-foot barge being towed by tug Patriarch when it was 86 miles northeast of Nassau in the Bahamas.
“There is no threat to the general population or the 11 crew members aboard the Patriarch at this time. The Patriarch is en route to Nassau, Bahamas to be closer to commercial salvage and fire fighting capabilities,” USCG said.
The USCG cutter Robert Yered has been diverted to the area to assist with search and rescue efforts if necessary and the fire is being monitored from the air.
