Diana Shipping extends capesize charter at $6,500 per day
Underscoring the grim nature of the dry bulk market Diana Shipping has extended a charter on one its capesizes for just $6,500 per day.

New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)-listed Diana extended its charter with Rio Tinto Shipping Asia for the capesize Sideris GS for a minimum of 13 – 18 months. The 2006-built, 174,186 dwt vessel was fixed at a gross day rate of $6,500 per day minus 5% commission to third parties.

Last week saw the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) plunge to a new all time low and the rate is above the Baltic Capesize Index (BCI) average spot TC rate of $5,190 per day recorded on Friday.

Having hit an all time low of 471 points on Thursday the BDI moved up slightly to 477 points on Friday.
