On Monday the 13,100 teu MSC Renee became the first post-panamax to call PSA-Panama after it completed its expansion early this year.

MSC Renee is part of the ANDES service between Asia and the West Coast of South America with partners Hapag Lloyd and ONE  (merger of the container lubes MOL/NYK/K L ine). The ships in the ANDES are being upgraded to 13,000 teu-class vessels.

ONE starts container line operations

The post-panamax MSC Renee marked a milestone for PSA-Panama, which engaged in a $450m expansion that gave the terminal a 1,130 metre berth, a draught of minus 16.5 metres, 11 Quay Cranes and 21 Yard Cranes that upgraded its capacity to 2m teu up from 450,000 teu.

This first operation call was of 1,000 moves, both load and discharge and transhipment cargo, as well as trucking cargo to the Atlantic coast since the vessel does not transit the Panama Canal.

During April, PSA-Panama will have two calls by MSC and partners per week: A vessel in the ANDES service and another in the Guayaquil Feeder service.

During May, when operations are fully up to speed, the number of calls by MSC and partners per week will gradually increase from 2 to 14.
