Liberian Registry reaches 4,000-ship milestone
The Liberian Registry has reached a historic milestone with the registration of its 4,000th vessel – the 50,000 dwt chemical / product tanker newbuilding High Trust, owned by d’Amico Tankers Limited, Dublin

“The Liberian-registered fleet continues to grow at a rapid pace with the planned addition of quality tonnage under quality ownership and management. The High Trust is an appropriate name for our 4,000th vessel, since it symbolises the ongoing faith shown in the Liberian flag by the international shipping community,” Scott Bergeron, ceo of the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), the US-based manager of the Liberian Registry, said.

“Size may not be everything. But ship registries which continue to build on their market share in a tightly regulated and safety-conscious sector by adding quality tonnage are clearly providing the service and expertise which today’s shipping industry demands,” he added.

The Liberia Ship Registry is the second largest open registry in the world after Panama with over 8,000 vessels and ahead of Marshall Islands. As at June 2015 and according to IHS Global, Panama’s tonnage was 218.2m tonnes, while Liberia was at 129.1m tonnes ahead of Marshall Islands with 116.4m tonnes.
