MOL faces lawsuit in the US

MOL faces lawsuit in the US
Mitsui OSK Bulk Shipping (USA), subsidiary of Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), is facing a class-action lawsuit concerning allegations of price fixing in the US car carrier market.

The lawsuit was filed by plaintiff David Schroeder in the US District Court for the Southern District of California, MOL confirmed in a statement.

“The plaintiff argues that the defendants conspired to adjust prices for ocean transport services of completed cars, which are related to the trade of the US,” MOL said.

The plaintiff is now seeking compensation for alleged damages, injunctive relief for the subject action against Mitsui OSK Bulk Shipping (USA). The amount of damage claimed is not specified.

MOL added that it has learned that other similar lawsuits have been filed against MOL Group companies in the US.

“The effect of these lawsuits on MOL's business performance is uncertain at this stage due to the difficulty of calculating the financial impact,” the company said.

Meanwhile, MOL has started investigating the cause of a freak accident that saw its containership MOL Comfort broke into two parts while underway on the Indian Ocean on 17 June.
