Consorcio Paracas beat out two other bidders on the project, including the local unit of APM Terminals. The winning consortium was formed by Spain's Servinoga and Brazilian companies Pattac Empreendimentos e Participacoes, Tucuman Engenharia e Empreendimentos and Fortesolo Servicios Integrados.
The terminal is near Peru's southern coastal city of Pisco, and the consortium will manage it through a 30 year concession, is expected to speed up mineral shipments from the Andean country's southern mines.
On 1 May, Peru’s President Ollanta Humala was in the Amazonas region for the foundation laying ceremony for a new $42.5m terminal in the northeastern location of Yurimaguas, near Iquitos. “This project will transform the region through fostering development and improved connectivity with Brazil,” said Humala. Peru is committed to raise the ongoing Peru-Brazil trade exchange.
The construction of the inland infrastructure will be financed with the concessionaire of the port “Puerto Amazon Concessionaire SAC- Copam” and is expected to be completed by 2016.
