Petrobras performs 1st transhipment operation at the Açu Petroleum terminal

Petrobras completed its first transhipment operation in a non-owned terminal, at the Açu Petróleo Petroleum Terminal (T-OIL) located in the Açu Port Complex in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The transhipment operation took place 24 – 25 May using a suezmax class vessel, with the mooring of the vessels Henrique Dias (exporter) and Brazil 2014 (reliever), per the two year-contract signed with the state company in March this year. T-OIL is a joint venture of Prumo Logística and Oiltanking.

"To date, Petrobras has been operating in Brazil only at its own terminals in Angra dos Reis and São Sebastião, for oil exports. We are the first private terminal in the country to carry out operations for the oil company and this is a source of great pride for Açu Petróleo,” said Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, president of Açu Petroleum.

“Our differentiating factors, such as the strategic location, close to the Santos and Campos basins and the capacity to receive VLCC-class vessels and transhipment in a sheltered area, were decisive in establishing this new and promising partnership," he added.

T-OIL is the only private Brazilian terminal with capacity to receive ships of the VLCC class, with a storage capacity of up to 2m tonnes of oil per day, with a capacity of 25 metres and licensed to move up to 1.2m barrels of crude oil per day.

Oiltanking performs the transhipment operation in an area sheltered by breakwaters, allowing a reliable and safe operation.
