The result equated to a 19.2% increase in container trade, compared with the same period in 2013.
Meanwhile ro-ro traffic amounted to 61,860 units of autos and heavy machinery in July, an 8.5% increase from the same period in 2013; while breakbulk throughput saw a 7% increase to 226,493 tons.
Overall July trade amounted to 2.52m tons, an increase of 12.8%.
“Improved confidence among US retailers, newly added port customers, and shifting cargo from U.S. West to East Coast are all fuelling the growing cargo volumes at Georgia’s deepwater ports,” said Curtis Foltz, Georgia Ports executive director. “Savannah has the space to more than double its throughput as more shippers choose East Coast ports to serve the fast-growing Southeastern US”
