Ship Finance International (SFI) has gone to a major South Korean shipyard to build four 8,700 teu containerships at “attractive” prices.

The name of the shipbuilder and the price of each newbuilding were not disclosed.

New York-listed SFI said the container vessels are scheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2014 and the first quarter of 2015.

“The vessels will be built to very high specifications, and will include the latest in eco-design features giving them a very competitive operational performance,” said Ole Hjertaker, ceo of Ship Finance Management.

“The vessels will be marketed for long term charters, and we have already seen firm interest from leading container operators.”

The John Fredriksen-owned SFI boasts a fleet of 69 ships including oil tankers, chemical tankers, dry bulk carriers, containerships, offshore supply vessels, drilling units, and car carriers.
