The construction of the first barge will start in April 2013 at Halter Marine's Pascagoula facility, with delivery scheduled in mid-2015. Work on the second barge will begin in the fourth quarter of 2013 with delivery slated in the first quarter of 2016.
Ng Sing Chan, president of ST Marine, the marine arm of ST Engineering, said the two barges will be built to the “highest standards in a timely fashion”.
Both the articulated tug barges will have 250,000 barrel capacity each to transport liquid petroleum. The 10,000 horse power twin screw barges will be equipped with interconnected coupler systems.
The barges will be American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) certified for Jones Act service.
