St Lucia ratifies BWM convention, still more needed for entry into force
Saint Lucia has become the 50th country to ratify the IMO’s Ballast Water Management (BWM) convention, but it does not help bring the convention any closer in coming into force.

St Lucia acceded to the BWM convention along with three other IMO conventions. However, the move by the Caribbean island nation failed to nudge up the percentage of the world fleet that has ratified the BWM Convention, which stands at 34.81% according to the IMO.

Nations controlling 35% of the world fleet by tonnage need to ratify the convention for it to come into force.
