The Paraguay-based shipyard is primarily engaged in the construction of barges and pusher boats for river transport.
Tsuneishi Shipbuilding noted that the cycle for replacing barges and pusher boats in South America tends to be longer, giving rise to safety concerns due to wear and tear on the equipment and machines.
Established in October 2008, Astillero Tsuneishi Paraguay started its repair business in 2013, and has completed the repair of 15 vessels as at 6 May 2016. The most recent repair work completed was on a 3,000-tonne bulk carrier that required a partial double-hull replacement.
Astillero Tsuneishi Paraguay is also seeking to further enhance its repair capability by partnering with sister firm Tsuneishi Paraguay Iron Works that specialises in machinery outfitting for ships, so as to enable the repair of not only traditional barges but also self-propelled vessels.
