USCG says no terror threat from Maersk ship in Port of Charleston
The US Coast Guard (USCG) says no threat has been found after a Maersk boxship in the Port of Charleston was investigated for a possible “dirty bomb”.

USCG Southeast tweeted that a Unified Command established at the port had determined there was “no threat existing to the port”, that the terminal would re-open shortly and a 1nm exclusion zone in place around the vessel Maesrk Memphis was lifted.

In a further tweet it said that the four containers that were a threat to the container terminal had been scanned and cleared by the authorities.

The Port of Charleston Wando Welch terminal was evacuated after the USCG was made aware of a potential threat onboard the Memphis Maersk at 8pm on Wednesday.

The possible threat originated from a YouTube conspiracy theorist George Webb. USCG Southeast said: “The original reporting source of the threat in port of Charleston has been detained by authorities for further questioning.”
