Australia joins Asian region anti-piracy body ReCAAP
Australia has become the 19th nation to join Asian regional anti-piracy body ReCAAP.

The Singapore-based government-to-government Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) aims to share information and help in capacity building to fight piracy and armed robbery in Asia.

“Australia is committed to combating the crime of piracy and is equally committed to comprehensive engagement in the Asia Pacific region through cooperation, capacity building and active participation in regional organisations such as the ReCAAP,” said Rear Admiral David Johnston, Commander Border Protection Command.

“Participation in the ReCAAP will provide Australia with greater visibility and awareness to monitor emerging regional threats from piracy and armed robbery at sea”.
