Bali's Benoa Port to handle international cargo from next month

Bali's Benoa Port to handle international cargo from next month
Bali's Benoa Port, which is run by Indonesian state-owned port operator Pelindo III, is set to start export and import services from next month as part of the government's efforts to increase international trade in Bali, local reports said.

Exports from Bali must now transit via Tanjung Perak in Surabaya, costing businesses time and money.Pelindo III is now finalizing the preparation stages of a separate area in Benoa port to handle containers for international trade as well as for customs-related purposes.

"This move would push down operational costs and cut overall logistics costs," said Purwanto Wahyu Widodo, a commercial operation manager at Pelindo III.

Benoa now only handles one large cargo ship every six days, Purwanto said but this capacity will be doubled with the upgrade.
