Bumi Armada pays $15.8m for upgraded MPSV
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia-based Bumi Armada has paid $15.8m to take delivery of one multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV) from Condor Shipco.

The 1978-built, 3,139 dwt offshore vessel has been renamed Armada Condor, and it is DP2 capable for operation up to 2,000 metres water depth.

The purchase will enable the MPSV to be deployed for future subsea, umbilicals, risers, flowlines (SURF) work under Bumi Aramada's transport and installation services business segment.

“This acquisition underpins our strategy to provide services to the oil and gas industry as exploration and production moves further from shore to deeper and harsher waters,” said Hassan Basma, executive director and ceo of Bumi Armada.

“Its 2002 re-construction ensured the Armada Condor has the facilities and capability for worldwide operations,” he added.

The re-building of the MPSV involved extension of vessel length to 104 metres and addition of DP2 system and thrusters.

Late in February, Bumi Armada won a $130m order for four MPSVs and an option for four similar units from fellow Malaysian company Nam Cheong.
