Bumi Armada wins Lukoil contract for three ice-class vessels
Malaysia-based Bumi Armada has sealed charter contracts worth about MYR844m ($262m) to provide three ice-class vessels to Russian oil major Lukoil.

The 10-year charter contract comes attached with further extensions of up to another 20 years at an estimated aggregate value of $483m if the extension options are full exercised.

The ice-class vessels will be deployed in the Filanovsky field in the Caspian Sea to service offshore platforms, according to Bumi Armada.

“This is the first time we will be building ice-class vessels to complement our offshore support vessel (OSV) fleet of some 50 vessels,” said Hassan Basma, executive director and ceo of Bumi Armada.

The three vessels comprising two new built ice-class support vessels and a new built ice-class multipurpose duty rescue vessel will commence work in November 2015.

An interim contract of approximately $18m was also signed for the provision of two support vessels and one rescue vessel to be delivered in November 2014 for deployment pending delivery of the purpose-built ice-class vessels.
