The Korean port achieved container volumes of 8.11m teu in the January-May period, an increase of 6.4% year-on-year, BPA figures showed.
Out of the total, 3.92m teu were import and export cargoes and 4.19m teu were transhipment cargo, where a 3.6% and 9.1% year-on-year increase were recorded, respectively.
In May alone, the East Asian port moved 1.64m teu of containers, representing an increase of 3.7% year-on-year.
BPA attributed the growth of the container throughput to the rise in transhipment cargo volumes. In particular, the monthly transhipment cargo volume in March set the highest monthly record by exceeding 1.68m teu.
“We will continue our efforts to increase cargo volume at Busan Port by creating high added value cargoes through utilizing Busan New Port distripark and carrying out various marketing activities to port users including consignors, liners, and forwarders,” commented Kang Bu-won, marketing team leader of BPA.
