In June, the East Asian port moved 1.57m teu of containers, inching down 1.9% compared to 1.6m teu handled in the same month of last year.
In the first six months of 2015, Busan port recorded a total throughput of 9.68m teu, an improvement of 5% compared to 9.22m teu posted in the previous corresponding period.
Out of the total box volume from January to June this year, 4.68m teu were import and export cargoes and 5m teu were transhipment cargo, with the transhipment volume accounting for more than 50% of the total throughput.
BPA has been trying to bring in more transhipment cargoes particularly from northern China and the western coast of Japan, and it aims to become the world’s second largest transhipment port in the world, behind Singapore.
