China’s ministry of industry and information techology announced on its website that among the 11 new names, 10 are privately-owned firms with four from Jiangsu province, three from Fujian province, one each from the provinces of Anhui, Hubei and Guangdong. Another single state-owned yard in the list is from Chongqing province.
The 11 shipyards are Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry, Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering, Jiangsu Haitong Offshore Engineering, Anhui’s Wuhu Xinlian Shipbuilding, Fujian Baima Shipyard, Fujian Southeast Shipyard, Fujian Huadong Shipyard, Hubei’s Ezhou Guangda Shipbuilding, Guangdong’s Jiangmen Nanyang Ship Engineering, and Chongqing Donggang Shipbuilding Industry of China Shipbuilding Industry Corp (CSIC).
The first batch of ‘white list’ shipyards was announced in September 2014, with the status allowing the yards to benefit from prioritised policy support and access to domestic bank loans.
The Chinese government also hopes to streamline yard capacity and promote consolidation and mergers in a sector that is under pressure from excessive facilities and dwindling new orders.
