CIMC leasing unit locks in another five-ship deal with MSC
China International Marine Containers (CIMC) leasing unit CIMC FL (HK) seems to be well on its way to setting up a cosy arrangement with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) for the sale and leaseback of their series of 8,800 teu container vessels from various yards around China.

The latest deal is a five-ship, $425m deal with New Century Shipbuilding Group unit New Times Shipbuilding.

In similar contract terms to a deal done earlier this month for seven 8,800 teu ships, MSC will charter the vessels for 204 months (17 years) for $425m, or $25,000 per vessel per day, after which they are obliged to buy them over for $21.5m each.

CIMC FL (HK) has negotiated the same favourable payment terms as last time, of just 2% downpayment, and expects to earn interest income of approximately $37.3m from the arrangement. Delivery is expected in 2015, whereupon they will make full payment, which will be funded by internal resources and bank borrowings, the company said in a stock market announcement.
