ClassNK approves LNG-fuelled bulker design

ClassNK approves LNG-fuelled bulker design
ClassNK has granted Approval in Principle (AIP) to a 98,000 dwt LNG-fuelled bulker design developed by Maritime Innovation Japan Corporation (MIJAC).

The vessel’s main engine and generators will operate on dual-fuel, using LNG from the IMO Type B 2,000 cu m LNG tank.

ClassNK, which has the biggest share of bulk carriers on its register, carried out the safety evaluation of the vessel based on the criteria of the international code of safety for ships using gases or other low flashpoint fuels (IGF Code) and approved the concept design, which will come into effect from 1 January 2017, as well as its own guidelines for gas fuelled ships.
