Cosco Corp secures order for semi-sub rig
Singapore: Singapore-listed Cosco Corporation’s Guangdong shipyard has bagged a $200m rig contract with Energy Drilling.

The GustoMSC Ocean 400 TD Semi-Submersible drilling rig, slated for delivery in June 2015, will be one of the largest Semi-Sub tender-assist drilling rigs in the world, with a variable deck load of 4,000 tonnes and an air gap of 10 m. The deal gives the option for a further rig, as well as including the supply of the Derrick Equipment Set, which is designed to drill on platforms of over 120 ft and is equipped with a quad-mast rated for 1,000,000 lbs hook-load.

“We expect the global economies to remain soft and competition to continue to heat up in 2013 as more players enter the offshore marine engineering segment,” said Wu Zi Heng, vp and president of Cosco Corp. “Our Group will bolster our marketing capabilities to better understand and meet customers’ needs as we continue to enhance our offerings.”

The Group’s order book stood at $6.1bn as of end 2012, with deliveries up to 2015. 2012 accounted for $2bn in orders, including an FPSO, a wind turbine installation vessel, a jack-up drilling rig and barge, a semi-sub accommodation rig and vessel, two pipelay heavy-lift offshore construction vessels, a tender rig and two barges, five bulk carriers and eight PSVs.
