Cosco Qidong to build two accommodation vessels

Cosco Qidong to build two accommodation vessels
Cosco Corporation (Singapore) has signed a letter of intent worth more than $400m to construct two semi-submersible accommodation vessels for a subsidiary of Oslo-listed Prosafe.

The letter of intent includes an option for more similar units.

The vessels, to be of Gusto MSC Ocean 500 design with DP3 capabilities, are scheduled for delivery in 2016. The vessels will also be equipped with 500 beds, 10-point chain mooring and 300 tonnes cranes.

The offshore units will be built at Cosco (Qidong) Offshore in China.

Singapore-listed Cosco Corp had earlier saw its third quarter profit slumped 84% year-on-year to SGD4.22m ($3.39m) due mainly to lower contributions from dry bulk shipping and shipyard operations.

As at 30 September 2013, the group's orderbook stood at $7.2bn with progressive deliveries up to 2015.
