Cosco Pacific container volumes up 10%
Port operator Cosco Pacific handled higher container volumes globally in the first five months of this year, backed by strong throughput growth at terminals in East Asia's southeast coast.

The Hong Kong-listed port operating arm of China Ocean Shipping moved 24.37m teu from January to May this year, up 10.1% from 22.14m teu in the same period of last year.

Throughput at terminals of southeast coast saw a 96.5% year-on-year surge to 1.26m teu during the period with a significant improvement from Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal as volumes soared to 249,100 teu from 14,600 teu a year ago. Cosco Pacific also operates Quan Zhou Pacific Container Terminal, Jinjiang Pacific Ports Development and Kao Ming Container Terminal in the southeast coast.

The port operator's terminals in Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta all recorded higher throughput year-on-year.

The overseas operations of Piraeus Container Terminal, Suez Canal Container Terminal, Cosco-PSA Terminal, and Antwerp Gateway also registered increased volumes.
