Worryingly however the stalwart Bohai Rim region saw a sharp deceleration in growth of just 0.8% to 2.64m teu. This is the slowest pace of growth the whole year and a big drop from the 5.9% pace seen in the preceding month.
The star performers were the overseas ports and the Southwest Coast stronghold at Guangxi QInzhou International Container Terminal, which grew 45.3% and 10.5% to 1.27m and 112,000 teu respectively.
The Southeast Coast cluster has also done well, rising 5.2% to 399,300 teu, while volume erosion at the Yangtze River Delta ports has tailed off, falling 2.4% to 1.49m teu, and stabilised at the Pearl River Delta ports falling 1.7% to 2.13m teu. The corresponding contraction in September was 4.1% and 1.5% respectively.
