CSBC eyes order for eight 1,800 teu boxships
Kaohsiung: Taiwan's state shipbuilder CSBC Corp is set to ink an order to build eight 1,800 teu container vessels worth a total of $192m, breaking a containership order drought of close to two years.

The shipbuilding contract is expected to be signed at the end of March or early April, and construction on the first vessel is planned to commence in November this year. The owner of the newbuildings is yet to be named.

CSBC's last containership orders came in May 2011 from Evergreen Marine which ordered ten 8,000 teu containerships worth a total of $1bn. The Evergreen newbuildings are scheduled to be delivered in phases from the third quarter of this year until the second quarter of 2015.

The two yards of CSBC – Kaohsiung and Keelung – are still sitting on orders of containerships from Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp, Wan Hai Lines and Ofer Maritime, and dry bulk carriers booked by China Steel Express Corp.
