The vessel was named the Vladimir Rusanov by Veronika Makeeva of PAO Novatek, the major shareholder of the Yamal LNG project, which the vessel will serve.
The ice-class Arc 7 LNG carrier is capable of sailing through sea ice up 2.1 m thick will transport LNG from the Yamal LNG plant at Sabetta on Russia’s Yamal Peninsula to worldwide LNG markets throughout the year. It is also capable of transiting the Northern Sea Route in the summer season.
The vessel is due for delivery at the end of December, and will go into service at end March 2018 following ice-trials in the Arctic.
The 172,000 cu m capacity is owned 50 – 50 by MOL and Cosco.
