The $116.8m price tag per ship suggests the vessels will be around 14,000 teu, according to newbuilding price data from vesselsvalue.com.
The site's data also shows the Korean giant secured orders for three 16,000 teu vessels for CMA-CGM last year, as well as 14 vessels of 9,200 - 9,300 teu for various owners.
Containerships accounted for 10% of Samsung's $37.5bn backlog at the start of 2014, and 9% of the $13.3bn of new orders secured in 2013.
