The workshops, to be held during Singapore’s three-day maritime mega-event organised by Seatrade, will present the “Admiralty Guide to policy and procedures for the operational use of ECDIS”.
They will provide expert guidance on the regulatory requirements governing the adoption of ECDIS and the policies and procedures that are required to fulfil SOLAS carriage obligations. The workshops have been designed for anyone involved in managing the integration of digital navigation into their vessels in order to meet the revised SOLAS regulations on the carriage of ECDIS, including ship managers, owners, ship personnel, regulators and auditors.
The latest series of ECDIS workshops, which follows on from the UKHO’s Digital Integration Workshops, will provide more detailed advice on the regulatory requirements for ECDIS policy and procedure. Delegates will be given plenty of time to ask questions and discuss with the UKHO team.
All three workshops will be held in Basement 2 of the Marina Bay Sands, where Sea Asia 2013 is being held. The first will be held today at 15:15 hours, the second will be held tomorrow at noon and the last on Thursday at 16:00 hours.
The Singapore workshops will be led by Capt Paul Hailwood, a Master Mariner and an internationally respected expert on ECDIS and integrated bridge operations.
Capt Hailwood said these workshops will identify the hazards associated with the operation of ECDIS, set out the control measures required to minimise the risk and provide a checklist of items required by international standards, in order to help shipping companies prepare for port state inspection or third-party audit relating to the ECDIS.
