HK port makes it past 20m teu mark for 2017, rising 5% overall

The Port of Hong Kong had a good last burst and regained the 20m teu mark for 2017 with a 5% rise in annual throughput to 20.76m teu from 19.81m teu in 2016.

Throughput for 2017 at the main Kwai Tsing terminals rose 7% to 16.24m teu while at the non-Kwai Tsing terminals volume slid 2% to 4.52m teu for the year.

In December, although volumes slid from the previous corresponding period in all segments, they were an improvement over the preceding months.

Overall throughput fell 11% in December to 1.77m teu from 1.98m teu in December 2016 while at the main Kwai Tsing terminals volume fell 4% to 1.35m teu from 1.40m teu previously.

At the non-Kwai Tsing terminals, volume plunged 28% in December to 420,000 teu from 581,000 teu in the previous corresponding month.
