Hong Kong port volumes rise 9% to 1.8m teu in January

Apparently driven by a later Lunar New Year, 2018 started off strongly for the Port of Hong Kong, with container throughput rising 9.2% to 1.81m teu in January from 1.66m teu in the previous corresponding period.

Volumes at the main Kwai Tsing terminals rose 5.9% to 1.41m teu while throughput at the non-Kwai Tsing terminals jumped 22.9% to 400,000 teu from 325,000 teu previously.

Throughput in January also rose from the prior three months, which averaged about 1.7m teu per month from October to December after the peak of the high season.
