Hong Kong port 2016 container volumes fall 2.5% to under 20m teu for first time in a decade
Despite a late push bringing a 14.3% rise in throughput to 1.8m teu, to produce the best monthly growth of the year in December the Port of Hong Kong, still saw annual volumes fall 2.5% to 19.6m teu for 2016, as projected bringing its first sub-20m teu annual throughput in over a decade.

The main Kwai Tsing terminals saw a 12.7% rise in throughput to 1.4m teu while the non-Kwai Tsing terminals handled 400,000 teu in December, a rise of 20.2%.

For the year however, the Kwai Tsing terminals saw volumes fall 2.4% to 15.2m teu while the non-Kwai Tsing terminals saw throughput fall 2.8% to 4.4m teu.
