Hong Kong: April was a slow month for Hong Kong's port as container throughput at the main Kwai Tsing terminals saw a small 0.7% rise to 1.49m teu from 1.48m teu in April 2011.

Volumes at the other terminals however plunged 14.2% to 620,000 teus from 723,000 teus in the previous corresponding period. As a result, overall volumes fell 4.2% to 2.11m teus.

In addition, throughput at the Kwai Tsing terminals also fell 1.1% from 1.51m teus the month before. For the year-to-date however, volumes at the main terminals still rose a healthy 3.6% to 5.77m teus and for all the terminals throughput was 0.7% higher at 7.72m teus.
