The eco-friendly bulk carrier is scheduled to be delivered from the shipyard by end-2017. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Huangpu Wenchong said that amid the depressed state of the dry bulk shipping market, bulker operators would be selective and choose only to build energy efficient and environmentally friendly ships such as the yard’s eco-friendly 38,800 dwt bulkers, local media reported.
Huangpu Wenchong’s latest order win followed an earlier deal on 30 December 2015 with a domestic shipowner to construct one 17,000 dwt asphalt tanker.
As part of a rationalisation and restructuring plan by CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation), Huangpu Wenchong was last year incorporated as part of another subsidiary of CSSC, CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (Group) Company (Comec).
