Huawei and Guangzhou setting up 5G port innovation centre

Huawei is working with city of Guangzhou to develop 5G mobile technology for ports.

The Southern Chinese port city of Guangzhou is to set up a 5G Port Innovation Center at Great Bay Area under the strategy cooperation agreement signed among Guangzhou Port Authority, Guangzhou Port Group, China Unicom Guangzhou Branch, Guangzhou Xinyidai Communication and Network Innovation Research Institute and Huawei.

According to the agreement, the five parties will jointly develop 5G technology for port and sea areas and accelerate 5G application on Guangzhou port and Great Bay area. The 5G technology will be used in port alerts, auxiliary navigation, intelligent cargo handling and other sectors.

Guangzhou port said that it will take this opportunity to promote its 5G intelligent port construction and strengthen the competitiveness of the port.

The Great Bay Area consists of nine cities in Guangdong province including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing and Zhongshan, plus two special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macao. It is the Chinese government’s scheme to establish a world-class city cluster and technology innovation hub in the region.
