The vessel was freed late on 8 April after and "out of court settlement" payment IM Skaugen and its insurance providers had made to the owners of the ferry Bahuga Jaya in which it was involved in fatal collision on 26 September 2012. The vessel and its crew have now reached to the entrance to Singapore port.
Two crew members of the Norgas Cathinka remain in Indonesia awaiting trial over the collision in which seven passengers and one crew member rom the Bahuga Jaya died.
“The ferry Bahuga Jaya was 40 years old and evidently not maintained for its trade. It was probably unseaworthy and did most probably sink for reasons of fatigue and/or construction modification leading to its failure,” IM Skaugen said.
