Indonesian president's maritime axis plan gets international support
Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s vision to transform Indonesia into a global maritime axis has received approval and pledges of support, with several countries offering to cooperate with the government to realize the vision, a senior minister was quoted as saying in local media.

Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Indroyono Susilo said that during the APEC Summit in Beijing and the G-20 Summit in Australia last year, the leaders of Australia, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the Netherlands and the US, said they were ready to cooperate with Indonesia in the fields of fisheries and maritime resource development as well as maritime infrastructure development and capacity building.

Indroyono told a Foreign Ministry working group that they aimed to focus on sea border limits, Indonesia’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf limits between Indonesia and its 10 neighbouring countries.

“We will immediately dispatch 12 research and survey vessels to collect hydro-oceanography data and sea biology and geology data that will be used in the negotiation of Indonesia’s sea border limits,” Indroyono said.
