K Line orders two LNG carriers in Japan
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) announced shipbuilding contracts for two LNG carriers as it signed long term charter contracts for the vessels with oil majors.

The first of the vessels, with a 155,300 cu m capacity, will be built at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) for a K Line joint venture with Australian oil and gas company INPEX called Ocean Breeze LNG Transport (OBLT).

The 70% K Line owned joint venture has signed a long term charter with INPEX for the vessel to carry LNG from the Ichthys project in Western Australia to Japan.

The second vessel of 182,000 cu m capacity will be built at Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) and has a long term charter shipping LNG from the Ichthys project to Taiwan for a joint venture between French oil major Total and INPEX.

The Ichthys LNG project is due to produce first gas in 2016.
