K Line signs bauxite ore transportation contract
Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has entered into an agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for a long term contract to transport bauxite ore.

K Line will transport about 5m tonnes per year of bauxite ore using capesize bulk carriers over an unspecified “long period”.

K Line has been a business partner of Dubai Aluminium, now an operating subsidiary of EGA, since its inception in 1979 and has continuously transported its cargo for the past 35 years.

The bauxite ore contract is for the alumina refinery that EGA plans to build in Al Taweelah in UAE.

In March this year, K Line had announced that its new medium-term management plan ‘Value for our Next Century’ would include growing its capesize bulk carrier business.

Under the new plan, K Line is expanding its capesize carrier business by securing medium to long term contracts.
