Malacca looks to Gothenburg for port model
Malacca chief minister Idris Haron, said Sweden's Port of Gottenburg is an ideal model for the proposed Melaka Port in the state.

"It is high time for Melaka to have a trade route or a marine silk road by building a port for vessels plying along the east-west route to call at," he was quoted by local media as saying.

Malacca has limited natural resources and it is important for the state to have a port of international stature to enable it to remain competitive and to spur its economic growth, he added."However, careful planning should be made from now onwards to enable us to get adequate financing to ensure than the proposed project to come to fruition."

Idris is on a 10-day working visit with state ruler Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob to several European countries, including Denmark and Sweden.
