Malacca port Tanjung Bruas expands services to handle containerships

Malacca-based Tanjung Bruas Port (TBP), a member of the MMC Group, has expanded its business by offering containership handling services at its Tanjung Bruas Port terminal.

Last Thursday, Tanjung Bruas Port terminal welcomed its first container vessel West Scent and undertook its first ever project in handling containerized shipment. The West Scent will depart for China’s Humen port after completing its cargo operations.

“Tanjung Bruas Port will be an important port for import and export to and from the central region and Guangdong province in China,” said Dato Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, chairman of TBP and group managing director of MMC Corporation Berhad.

“With the new container services, the opportunity to import and export freight to and from Malacca will increase significantly via this sea route, with a monthly route to China as a start,” he added.

Strategically located along one of the world’s busiest trade routes at the centre and narrowest point of the Straits of Malacca, TBP said Tanjung Bruas Port has huge potential to be developed as a gateway to handle containerized cargoes to serve the growing industries in Malacca and the central region of Peninsular Malaysia as well as its neighbouring countries.

A Comprehensive Development Plan up to 2022 is underway to improve on the current port facilities via investment in modern equipment to enhance the operations of the port, supported with business development initiatives.
