Under an agreement signed last month MHI and Chengxi Shipyard, part of China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) will collaborate closely on the entire process of BWTS installation.
MHI will provide the drawings for installation and train Chinese workers at its Yokohama yard. When an order is received for retrofits on multiple ships of the same time, the first job will be undertaken at the Yokohama yard with subsequent retrofits carried out at Chengxi Shipyard.
“By combining MHI's advanced technologies accumulated from its abundant experience in ship conversion work, including BWTS installation, and Chengxi Shipyard's ability to respond to ship conversion needs and its cost competitiveness, the two companies look to establish an advantageous position in the global market in this field,” MHI said.
It is not the first time MHI has collaborated with a Chinese shipyard in 2012 it signed a joint development agreement with Sinopacific Shipbuilding on commercial vessel construction.
