Newbuilding BigRoll Barentsz heads to the Arctic for Yamal LNG
BigRoll Shipping has taken delivery of its first MC Class vessel to be deployed in transportation for construction on the Yamal LNG project.

The BigRoll Barentz is a Finnish Swedish 1A Ice Class MC vessel is the first in a series of four was handed over to its owners on 8 April by Cosco Dalian Shipyard.

BigRoll Shipping said the vessels are specifically designed for the marine transportation of major modules and equipment for large energy projects both on and offshore in extreme environments.

The BigRoll Barentsz is being immediately deployed on a multi-year contract with Yamgaz, the consortium of Technip, JGC Corporation and Chiyoda for module transportation as part of the Yamal LNG project.

Yamal in the Russian Arctic is ice bound for 7-10 months a year and the vessel is capable of operating in temperatures down to minus 50 degrees Celsius.
