Ningbo port completes merger with Zhoushan port
China’s Ningbo port and Zhoushan port have completed their merger, and assumed a new entity named Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group.

News of the merger came since early August, as Shanghai-listed Ningbo Port suspended its shares trading from 4 August, before confirming the merger on 29 September.

The ports of Ningbo and Zhoushan, south of Shanghai, are neighbouring ports. The container throughput of the ports are recorded under Ningbo-Zhoushan port, with Ningbo accounting for the majority of volumes.

In the first half of this year, Ningbo-Zhoushan registered container throughput of 10.5m teu, an increase of 9% year-on-year. Ningbo port handled 10.2m teu while Zhoushan port only moved 300,000 teu.

In 2014, Ningbo-Zhoushan was ranked the world’s fifth busiest container port with a total throughput of 19.44m teu.
